Went to a presentation recently that laid out in amazing, clear detail some of the changes that have happened to natural areas of the world in the past few decades. Here are just a few of the symptoms:
- the 2003 heat wave in Europe that killed 15,000 people
- a shrinking snow pack on Mount Kilimanjaro that is expected to melt completely in 15 years
- rising carbon dioxide levels that are expected to double in 50 years-partly due to massive deforestation occurring in the developing world
- an increase in the number and intensity of hurricanes and other weather-related disasters
- mounting weather-related claims filed by the insurance industry
- Greenland ice that has been melting at 40 percent over the past 40 years
- the shrinking ice shelf in Antarctica, and the probability that the Arctic icepack could completely disappear during the summer in another 50 years
Watching this presentation made me feel like Roy Scheider in JAWS when he finally glimpses the actual size of the shark and goes "We need a bigger boat."
Stop Global Warming is an organization that is building awareness in a non-political environment. Founded by Laurie David (who happens to also be Mrs. Larry David) they're doing a virtual march across the country (next stop is a comedy show to tickle yer brain as well as yer funny bone). We have the technology, people.

And finally here's a recent pic Jamie took of me at the Velocity Cafe:
Cool place, huh? You can catch me there every Friday from 6 to 8. See http://www.velocity-cafe.com/.
Aight, that's it for me today. But i wish everyone lots of fun and love for the upcoming holidays with little dashes of zen-like calm when Uncle Ralph pulls you by the elbow for yet another rendition of "Did I Ever Tell You About This Scar??" (Just BREATHE...)
