Shelter Valley Thanks to Shelter Valley Folk Festival

The hosts of Shelter Valley Folk Festival, Arnie and Tracey Henkel and family, donate their farm to the Festival each year. In exchange, Shelter Valley Folk Festival donates $1,000 to a charity of their choice. This year, the Henkels have chosen The Arts Can Circle as the beneficiary of this generous donation.  Here Magoo, Chairman of the ArtsCan Circle Board of Directors, accepts the cheque from Arnie!

Many Thanks!

Ron K Upcoming Trips!

We Need Drums & Harmonicas!

We are very pleased to be able to return to the community of Wabaseemoong (White Dog), Ontario this year in Northwestern Ontario.  We are also excited to be working with Ron Kanutski as a new team member. Ron is a musician and cultural teacher who brings a lifetime of instruction and training from numerous Ojibway, Oji-Cree elders, healers, story-tellers and medicine people.  Ron will lead drum circles for the students and we hope to bring along some hand drums to leave in the community.

Each drum costs $50.  To help with this we're asking for monetary donations to assist with the drum purchases.  If you would like to sponsor a drum for the Wabaseemoong trip or contribute to the funding please donate online at www.artscancircle.ca and click on the "donate now" button or call the office at (905) 836-9117 with your Visa or Mastercard or send a cheque to:

ArtsCan Circle
Box 95557
Newmarket, ON
L3Y 8J8

We're also planning a trip to the Dokis community where we hope to conduct harmonica workshops with the children and give participants their own new harmonica.  Harmonicas are a wonderful and inexpensive way to allow students to produce their own music and express themselves musically.  A donation of $20 will sponsor a child to have their own harmonica.
Donations of any amount are welcome.
We will send you a charitable tax receipt for the amount of your donation.
Many Thanks!

Aeroplan Miles Campaign - May 2009

May Aeroplan Airmiles Campaign - Let's get 300,000 Miles!

Help us send teams to Northern Aboriginal Communities!

The May 2009 Aeroplan Campaign is gearing up - please help if you can.  Last year was the first year for this campaign and our supporters donated over 200,000 Aeroplan Miles!  Many people helped us send teams North last year by donating Aeroplan Miles.  We were able to use Aeroplan Miles for the first leg of the journeys.  As we are expanding our programs to include new communities this year's goal is 300,00 Aeroplan Miles.  Tell all your friends!

It takes 25,000 Aeroplan Miles to send one musician to Labrador.
It takes 15,000 Aeroplan Miles to send one artist to Thunder Bay.
That's the first leg of the journey for many of our northern communities, from there it costs another $300 to $500 flight on a 15 seat airplane to get to the children we serve.

Help us give more children opportunities to express themselves through art & music.
Can you spare 1,000 Areoplan miles?  Every donation helps.
Many small donations can add up quickly.

Please print out the simple form on our website and mail/fax your donation to the address on the form by the end of May.  Go to www.artscancircle.ca to print the form.
Thanks for your support!

Thank you!

Our sincere thanks to everyone who has donated instruments over that past few months.  Many individuals have donated guitars, keyboards, recorders, harmonicas and more.

Also our thanks to M-Audio who donated some high quality keyboards to the program.
We will find good homes for all your instruments in Northern Indigenous communities.

Thanks to volunteer Jamie Steele for helping to spread the word about the work of ArtsCan Circle. Jamie set up and manned an ArtsCan Circle display at the East Coast Music Awards Conference in Corner Brook, Newfoundland on Feb. 28.
Many thanks!
