STI Testing

The Pride Centre will have testing available for sexually transmitted infections the last Thursday of every month from 3pm-6pm provided by nurses from the Alberta Health Services STD Centre.

May's testing will be held on the 21st NOT the 28th

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Hello to all patrons of the Pride Centre of Edmonton! Your Pride Centre needs you! This year, Edmonton Pride is taking it to the next level! The Pride Centre of Edmonton is proud to accept the invitation of the Edmonton Pride Week Society and be the Marshalls of this year's Pride Parade. Let's kick off Pride with style!

There are four major areas that need volunteer assistance. We've got the Pride Parade, the Celebration on the Square (the Pride Centre of Edmonton booth), the annual Pride Centre Brunch and the Mellow Yellow Submarine Youth Dance. For more information on these events you can check out the blurbs in the newsletter or visit their respective Facebook events pages!

Volunteering for any of these events can involve helping with set up, supervision, informing people of the Pride Centre's services and clean up.

If you are interested in volunteering at any of these events, please contact Saba Kidane, our Summer Student Worker, at saba@pridecentreofedmonton.org . Your help is greatly apprecitated!

 

Provincial Advisory Committee

HIV Edmonton and AIDS Calgary are working together to create a provincial advisory committee for gay/bisexual men and men who have sex with men. The committee will identify and collaborate with organizations and communities
on emerging issues in HIV and their community. In addition, the committee will concentrate on focused work and strategy development in the area of social and public policy. Members of the Advisory Committee will work on a volunteer basis, with AIDS Calgary and HIV Edmonton covering base expenses for travel and accommodation.
The first meeting of the Advisory Committee is scheduled for July 2009 and the committee will meet quarterly for a one year term.

Application Process
If you are interested in this opportunity please submit a letter of interest to selectioncommittee@aidscalgary.org. Closing date for letters of interest is June 1st 2009. Your letter of interest should discuss the following expectations
and qualifications:
ability to attend quarterly meetings and meet a one year commitment
previous committee or board experience
strong understating of the guiding philosophies
experience with creating community impact or social change


Successful applicants will be requested to sign a letter of commitment outlining their support and participation for the project for the entire term.

Annual Pride Brunch Sunday June 14th

Join the Pride Centre for a fun, family friendly brunch from 11 am to 1 pm. Drop in and enjoy delicious brunch fare and great company; crafts and entertainment for the young and young at heart! This event is free to all.

 

Mellow Yellow Submarine Youth Dance Friday June 19th!

It's the age of Aqueerius, let your Hair down and join us on the Mellow Yellow Submarine. There will be groovy times a happenin'! Head on down to the Centre at 3 pm for movies (Hair and Yellow Submarine), games and snacks with a swingin' '60s dance starting at 6 pm! Dress to impress in your best clothes and accessories from the age of love! Tickets are $5 and can be bought from the Centre.

 

Seniors Strawberry Tea June 18th

Strawberry Cream Tea and Finger sandwiches, at the Pride Centre of Edmonton
For G,L,B,T,Q persons over 60 Donations will be accepted at the Door.

2nd Annual Queer Youth Camp-Out

The second annual Queer Youth Camp-Out is happening August 20th to 23rd at Pine Trails Getaway and is open to all youth between the ages of 14 and 25. The next planning meeting in Saturday, May 30th from 5:00pm-6:00pm at the Pride Centre and is open to all youth interested in contributing. Full info and registration forms will be available in June. Book Worm's Book Club

Are you interested in reading of the literary works of GLBT authors or of literature pertaining to various GLBT subjects/issues? This book club will address both of these topics in an engaging atmosphere and in a relaxed, social environment. Our meetings will be at Second Cup on 112 Street and Jasper Ave every Wednesday @ 7:30 pm. If you have any questions/suggestions please forward them to bookworm@teamedmonton.ca.
