Welcome
Welcome and Bonjour mes amies to the Figure 8 Skating Club!!
A big hello to all of our skaters new and old. We know all of you will have a great year learning to skate! We always have lots of fun here at the club. If you have friends that are looking for a place to learn to skate and join you in the fun let them know we are still accepting registrations. We have an excellent canskate program available in French as well as English, our power skaters show amazing skill in their classes. And to our brave adult skaters who take lessons once a week, way to go! Our club is run by an outstanding group of volunteers and coaches, and we all really appreciate feedback. Please do not hesitate to ask questions or seek out information, that is what we are here for. We look forward to sharing this skating season with you.

CanPower Update
Attention CanPower Parents,
For those of you returning from last season you may have noticed that we no longer have the services of Wayne Jones, who assisted with instructing the skaters in puck handling. Based on parent feedback we realize this added feature to the program was appreciated, therefore we are working towards bringing in guest instructors for puck handling the last class of each month. On these sessions you will see the skaters rotating between full ice drills, skill technique practice with their regular coach, and puck handling with a guest instrutor.
If any parents are higher level hockey players or coaches and would be interested in coming on the ice as a guest instructor please contact Tammy at tammylg@shaw.ca or 780-449-2818. Our overall focus will continue to be on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance skills we expect this additional training aspect will not detract from the program focus but help improve the skaters overall game. If you have any questions of concerns again please contact Program Director Tammy Greidanus.

H1N1 Prevention at the Rink
Here is a list of good prevention habits and ideal infection control that you should practice at home and in the arena:
Hand Washing Hygiene
◦ Frequently
◦ Thoroughly
◦ Water and/or Sanitizer
The Sleeve Sneeze
◦ Catch those germs on garments not hands, face or air spray
Distance between Buddies
◦ Meet and greet without hand and face contact (Hugs can easily be replaced by friendly non-contact greetings like elbow bumps, peace signs and air kisses)
◦ Three feet or an arms length between buddies (avoid crowded dressing rooms)
The Wipe-Down Brigade
◦ Frequent cleaning with anti-viral cleaning solutions
◦ Make all surfaces that have hand contact easy to wipe
Remember your own equipment to avoid sharing items such as gloves
You have permission to stay at home from skating if you are not feeling well!
