CFI Eligible Funding Partners

Pursuant to section 3.2.1 of the CFI Policy and Program Guide, the Federal Indirect Costs Program (FIDC) is not an acceptable funding partner. This includes any renovations, equipment, salaries or other costs that may be funded wholly or in part through the FIDC. As the goal of the Indirect Costs program is to protect the investment in research (funded through the tri-council agencies), the CFI considers it to be a tri-council program.

If you have questions, please contact your Faculty-assigned Research Facilitation Office.

Processing Donations

RSO has recently seen an increase in requests for processing donations being forwarded directly to the Agreements team. All administrative matters related to donations for research are to be processed through the Faculty Development Officers and Advancement Services.

Authorization to process donations for new Peoplesoft Projects for donations for research and amendments or extensions to "D" projects (including the addition of new cash) are always received directly from Advancement Services.

Registration of Clinical Trials

The Northern Alberta Clinical Trials and Research Centre (NACTRC) is a joint venture between the University of Alberta and Capital Health. Established in 1999, NACTRC provides pharmaceutical and research companies with higher standards in quality, cost-effective clinical trial research. NACTRC is supported by Canada’s leading health researchers and clinicians.

In 2005, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors initiated a policy requiring investigators to deposit information about their clinical trial into an accepted registry before the onset of patient enrolment. Failure to do so prevents the results from being accepted for publication in most scientific journals. This policy was designed to ensure information about clinical trials was publicly available. Trial registration at the National Institutes of Health site is now the rule for all prospective clinical research that involves humans.

To meet its strategic plan of making clinical research easier for the investigator, NACTRC now has a process to help facilitate your trial registration. Please contact Lori Anderson at Capital Health for further information and assistance with your clinical trial registration.
