Trip Report - Sheshatshiu, Labrador
March
3 - 7, 2008
In March, Mike Stevens, Magoo, Carol Teal and David Anderson made a return trip to Sheshatshiu, Labrador. We arrived in Goose Bay, Labrador on Monday afternoon
and hunted down the depot for the pallet load of instruments we had shipped
ahead. Fortunately they were all safe and sound a patiently awaiting our
arrival. We had keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars, ukes and a
variety of percussion instruments to deliver to the youth centre in
Sheshatshiu. Monday evening we met with Maryanne who runs the youth
centre and made plans for working there on Tuesday. Maryanne helped spread the
word of our visit out in the community and put the news on the local radio
station. Tuesday we set up the instruments and made all manner of music with
the kids who came to the youth centre.

keyboards
On Wednesday we worked in the school engaging the
students in creative arts, singing and music workshops.

On Thursday we
planned to work again in the youth centre but a Labrador snowstorm had other
ideas and shut down both the school and the youth centre for the day. We
were happy to at least have the chance to visit the interpretive centre and
spend more time with our community liaison, Etienne.

A much needed new school is underway in Sheshatshiu.
We wish them all the best for a speedy completion.
We really
enjoyed our time in Sheshatshiu working with the kids and being warmly welcomed
by the adults we met. Thanks to everyone who helped make the trip a
success. We hope to come back soon!

May is Aeroplan Miles Month!!!
Aeroplan Airmiles Campaign
May 2008
We're excited to announce we've been granted an Aeroplan Airmiles Donation Account. During the month of May 2008 we'll be collecting donated Aeroplan Miles for ArtsCan Circle!!
We'll use the miles to purchase Air Canada Flights to help our teams get to Native communities in Northern Canada. This could cut our costs in half for transportation. Please consider donating some Aeroplan Miles and help get music & art to the kids who will benefit. Please help us spread the word about this campaign.
You can donate as few or as many air miles as you want from your account. Many small donations can add up to a lot of miles! Help us find people to have miles to spare. You can download the donation form from our website anytime from now until the end of May 2008 and fax or mail it to us as per the instructions on the form. For more info contact Carol at (905) 836-9073 or Email: carol.teal@sympatico.ca or info@artscancircle.ca
Help us spread our wings!

heroism!
Thanks to Sam Palmer (a grade 8 music lover) and his friends at the Thousand Island Elementary School for putting on a benefit concert that raised funds and awareness for ArtsCan Circle. Thanks, Sam!
