Research Administrators' Day (RAD)
Register for Research Administrators' Day on May 29, 2008! RAD is designed for administrators involved with research administration and management at faculty, department or project level. Participants will enhance their understanding of research administration through relevant, practical and interactive presentations on a wide range of topics.
This year’s Research Administrators' Day focuses on the complexity, diversity and accountability of administrative responsibilities associated with research funding. RAD will introduce a middle learning stream to provide three learning levels and depths to administrators: 100 (beginner), 200 (intermediate) and 400 (advanced) level sessions.

Important Changes to Ethics Processes
The University of Alberta is moving to a new web-based ethics system – Human Ethics Research Online or HERO. Additional information about HERO is available online.
The Education Extension Augustana Research Ethics Board (REB) will start its online applications using HERO on May 27, 2008. The Biomedical Panel/Panel A of the Human Research Ethics Board (HREB) is also part of the pilot implementation and is conducting a staged roll-out, starting with the Department of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics.
- The deadline for applications for the June 20, 2008 Biomedical panel meeting is June 6, 2008. These applications will use the existing paper application forms.
- Effective June 7, 2008, all new ethics applications (delegated and full) to the HREB Biomedical Panel from all researchers (full-time and part-time) with an academic appointment (tenure track, clinical, sessional, adjunct) in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics must be prepared and submitted using HERO. These applications will be routed for delegated or full REB approval following the June meeting. For amendments and annual reports, continue to use the existing forms.
- All other Panel A applications, i.e. a renewal from Family Medicine or an amendment from Opthalmology, will use existing forms and processes. Training for all other Panel A applicants will be provided in July and August.
